Idali Sambar Recipe
Ingredients for Idali:
- 2 cups rice
- 1 cup urad dal (black gram)
- 1 tsp fenugreek seeds
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
Ingredients for Sambar:
- 1/2 cup toor dal (pigeon peas)
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1/2 cup tamarind pulp
- 2 tsp sambar powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
- Curry leaves
- Mustard seeds
Instructions for Idali:
- Soak rice, urad dal, and fenugreek seeds in water for 6 hours.
- Grind the mixture to a smooth batter and let it ferment overnight.
- Add salt and mix well.
- Steam the batter in idali molds for 10-12 minutes.
Instructions for Sambar:
- Cook the toor dal in a pressure cooker until soft.
- Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and curry leaves.
- Add onions and tomatoes, sauté until soft.
- Add sambar powder, salt, and tamarind pulp. Cook for 5-7 minutes.
- Add cooked dal and water as needed. Simmer for 10 minutes.
